WOMEN’S CIRCLE FOR EUROPEAN FRIENDSHIP

FRASCATI CONGRESS – 20TH – 24TH SEPTEMBER, 2010

ENGLISH SPEAKING ROUND TABLE

DISCUSSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The English Group decided not to concentrate on the general topics of the agenda but to concentrate on the real problems of the different groups.

1. LOOKING BACK

There were two opposite opinions about publishing an attractive historical book about our Friendship Circle of Groups.

The questions arising were: who will write it ? who will pay for it ? who will read it ?

2. LOOKING FORWARD

We made the following suggestions and recommendations:

  • attracting new members of about 50 years through different ways, with experiences of various kinds, possibly via a website; two circles have Websites.
  • the membership cost differs in each country; costs could be cut down by making all communications through email.
  • to help memorize people, we suggest exchanging the names and photos of committee members and before visits, exchanging photographs of hostesses and guests.
  • to increase the knowledge of each others' countries, we suggest circulating information of significant films and books by the end of each year.
  • a popular suggestion was to research an "European City of Culture" each year
  • if a trip is planned, to inform the other circles so that they can join on an informal basis and possibly arrange a meeting with local women’s organizations.
  • a suggestion to increase the inter-action between the members of each circle was to make a list with names of people interested in going together to the theatre, to the cinema, to concerts, etc., such that they can organize themselves because:

“TOGETHER WE ARE NOT ALONE “
