Strawberry Hill House and Chiswick House - 16th July 2012

Our summer trip this year was expected to include a picnic in the gardens of Chiswick House - unfortunately we were met with a deluge and had to take refuge in the Cafe!

Our day trip started with morning coffee at Strawberry Hill House, followed by a guided tour of this newly refurbished quaint but intriguing Gothic Mansion designed by Horace Walpole. The architecture and designs of the building, external and internal, were extravagant and magnificent! The building has recently been restored to its former glory and the Strawberry Hill House Trust is now attempting to recover some of the original furniture that was sold at auction by former owners, to complete the collection.

We then transferred to Chiswick House for lunch and a visit of the House, an exquisite Palladian Villa associated with the Dukes of Burlington and Devonshire. The more energetic amongst us then braved the elements and joined a guided tour of the famous gardens refurbished with a National Lottery grant.

In spite of the weather, we all had a very enjoyable day!
