Visit to Modigliani Exhibition at Tate Modern

Wednesday 17th January 2018

The subject of our 2017 Art Lecture was Modigliani and we thought it appropriate to follow it with a visit to the Tate Modern on Wednesday, 17th January 2018, to view the newly opened Modigliani Exhibition.

Some 40 members and their guests left Maidenhead for a day trip to London, which was very successful. After quite a long drive, we disembarked on Southwark Bridge and walked to Tate Modern, when after a refreshing cup of tea, we viewed the exhibition. This walked through the short but intense life of Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920), both in Paris and in the south of France. The exhibition comprised works of art, paintings as well as sculptures, shown thematically in 10 rooms. There was also a Virtual Reality area, showing in three dimensions the artist's studio in Montparnasse.

Several members decided to have lunch in the lovely new restaurant in Tate Modern, while others braved the elements and crossed the Millennium Bridge for a walk round St Paul's or the City of London.

Thank you to the Committee for arranging this very special trip.
